Serguei Smirnov

Serguei Smirnov was born in Russia in 1992. He received his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering at Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL), in Belgium. During the Master's programme, he completed his Master's Thesis entitled "Engineered Si-based substrate for RF applications". He has a background in nanotechnology, MEMS design and fabrication, and electronic circuits and systems.

Serguei's interest in microsystems and high frequency applications led him to join the RF/Microwave/THz MEMS group of Prof. Joachim Oberhammer at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, in February 2017. As part of the CELTA project, his PhD will be focused on carbon-based nanomaterials for reconfigurable reflect array elements. Electrically tuneable phase shifters will be studied with their implementation in the reconfigurable antenna elements. Moreover, the possibility to use them as a photomixer for future THz power sources will be investigated.
